Mechanical engineering of Zhengzhou University is the first class key discipline in Henan province. The Vehicle Engineering is one of the four secondary supporting disciplines of its. It was founded in 2007 and has the right to grant master's degree in engineering. It cooperates to build Henan Engineering Laboratory for Pure Electric Vehicles, mainly for land transportation equipment including automobiles and its key parts. To carry out the scientific research and technical development of vehicle design and manufacturing, to undertake the training of academic graduate students in vehicle engineering and mechanical engineering, and to undertake the teaching task of the vehicle engineering direction of mechanical engineering undergraduate course.

In recent years, the discipline has formed certain characteristics in the design and manufacture of special engineering vehicles and mini-electric vehicles, the design and manufacture of micro-automotive MEMS devices, the optimization design of vehicle structure lightweight and passive safety structure, and the development of vehicle intelligent network connection system and vehicle intelligent terminal. It has undertaken and completed one project of the National Science and Technology Support Plan, three projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, four major science and technology projects of Zhengzhou City, and more than 15 projects of school-enterprise cooperation and development.

There are nine full-time teachers in the discipline, including one professor and three associate professors. Teachers with doctoral degrees and young teachers is about 90%. The structure of academic relationship is reasonable, the innovation is strong, and the cooperation style is excellent.
