On May 18, the International Symposium on the Ethics Review of New Therapy, sponsored by the Academy of Medical Sciences(AMS)of ZZU, was held on main campus. This symposium was attended by Dr Monika Preuss, Head of Genomics Science and Emerging Technologies, Ministry of Health, Bobbie Farsides, Professor of Ethics, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, University of Sussex, UK, Hugh Whitehall, Director of the Nuffield Bioethics Association, Ainsley Newson, Associate Professor of Bioethics of Sydney University, Australia, and Dr. Zhang Haihong, Director of Research Integrity and Research Ethics Training, Peking University, and Gu Zhenqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of ZZU, etc. The seminar was chaired by Nick Lemoine, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Gu Zhenqing noted in his speech that medical ethics as an important part of medicine, is a subject used to evaluate whether human medical behavior and medical research conform to morality or not. The convening of such an international seminar on ethical review of new technologies will help us to standardize and conform to the principles of medical ethics in the development of new technologies and medical research involving human beings.
