Wellington Institute of Zhengzhou University (WIZZU) is officially approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2023. It is the first non-independent Sino-foreign cooperative education institute of Zhengzhou University on the new journey towards building a world-class university. It is also the first cooperative education institute in China run by Victoria University of Wellington. WIZZU leverages the strengths of both universities and integrates high-quality educational resources comprehensively, which aims to create a first-class international faculty, innovative training centers, resource-sharing platforms, and academic support systems. We value the philosophy of “student-centered, making every student better”, striving to cultivate top international design talents with an international vision, profound patriotism, open self-confidence, practical innovation spirit, and global competence.
WIZZU implements a “4+0” joint cultivation model with dual enrollment and dual degrees in China and New Zealand, offering interconnected Chinese and foreign courses, shared resources, mutual recognition of credits, joint degree conferral, and two-way exchanges. It aims to help students realize their dream of "studying abroad without going abroad" by creating a world-class hub for innovative talents, a high-level demonstration site for cooperative education, a new frontier for educational opening-up, and a new platform for integrated undergraduate and postgraduate training. Students who successfully complete the program and meet the requirements of both universities will receive two bachelor’s degrees in their respective major fields. Without going abroad, students can obtain the degree certificates issued by WIZZU that are identical to those in Victoria University of Wellington and are recognized in New Zealand.
Zhengzhou University is on the list of National “211 Project” of key construction universities, and of National “Double First-Class” initiative, as well as of co-construction universities by Henan Province and Ministry of Education. CPC Zhengzhou University Committee is an advanced primary party organization in the country, and was selected as the third batch of “Model of National Party Building in Colleges and Universities” by the Ministry of Education. At this new historic starting line, ZZU decided its location of running school to be high-level, comprehensive, and research-oriented. Victoria University of Wellington, full name Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, was founded in 1897 and is one of New Zealand’s largest and most prestigious universities. 1 Modernized Governance System Collaborating with Victoria University of Wellington WIZZU implements effective teaching and academic management, establishing corresponding teaching and academic institutes. Its internal governance and decision-making are approved by a joint management committee composed of personnel selected by Zhengzhou University and Victoria University of Wellington.
2 Seamlessly Integrated Curriculum Shared with Victoria University of Wellington WIZZU’s employment-oriented curriculum is seamlessly integrated with that of the Victoria University of Wellington. This includes teaching content, course materials, teaching methods, and teacher qualifications, all of which are jointly negotiated and recognized, with mutual recognition of course credits between the institutes.
3 Academic Guidance System Compatible with World-Class Universities WIZZU establishes an academic assessment and guidance system, overseas study support system, skills competition incentive system, mental health assistance system, employment guidance service system, and entrepreneurship internship support system, aligning with the standards of world-class universities.
4 Teaching Quality Assurance System Aligned with International Standards WIZZU has developed a teaching management and quality assurance system that meets international standards, which is guaranteed from the establishment of relevant organizational structures, faculty recruitment, assessment and training, teaching operations, and a combination of internal and external audits.

The academic leaders, key faculty members, and teaching and research teams of WIZZU are appointed according to the high-level talent recruitment standards of world-class universities, referencing the global faculty appointment criteria of Victoria University of Wellington. The faculty for specialized courses is composed of three parts: Chinese faculty members are selected from the School of Architecture and the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering at Zhengzhou University, all of whom possess an international perspective. Foreign faculty members are selected by Victoria University of Wellington from their outstanding staff. WIZZU also recruits English teachers and bilingual subject teachers worldwide.
