The discipline of journalism and communication in Zhengzhou University has a history of more than 40 years since 1976. In 1993, it obtained the right to grant a master's degree in journalism, and is one of the earliest units with a master's degree in journalism and communication in China. In 2006, journalism won the first batch of key disciplines in Henan Province; In 2007, journalism was identified as the first batch of characteristic majors of the Ministry of Education; In 2008, it was approved as a first-class key discipline in Henan Province; In June 2014, it signed an agreement with Xinhua News Agency to jointly build the Mu Qing Research Center.;In December, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee and Zhengzhou University signed an agreement to jointly build the School of Journalism and Communication; In 2017, it was approved for the ninth batch of key disciplines in Henan Province; In the fourth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2017, the journalism and communication discipline of Zhengzhou University was rated as B, ranking 17th in the country, six places ahead of the third round of discipline evaluation; In 2018, it was successfully approved as a doctoral degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of journalism and communication; In 2019, it was successfully approved as a postdoctoral mobile station for the first-level discipline of journalism and communication; Journalism and advertising have been approved as national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites. Journalism and communication has formed five disciplines: journalism history theory, journalism practice, communication history theory, new media public communication and audio-visual culture communication.
