Introduction to New Media Research Institute of Zhengzhou University
The New Media Research Institute of Zhengzhou University (formerly known as the New Media Research Center of Zhengzhou University before 2020) was established in July 2013, and was supported by the first batch of key projects in the direction of basic and emerging disciplines of Zhengzhou University, headed by Professor Zhang Shuhua. At present, the Institute has eight researchers within the institution and seven researchers within and outside the university. The research institute is focused on various public communication issues around the context of new media, and has continued to cultivate deeply in the fields of new media political communication, cultural communication, development communication and international communication. The research institute has achieved a series of important results, among which it has undertaken 1 major project of the National Social Science Foundation, 5 projects of the National Social Science Foundation and the Ministry of Education, 2 postdoctoral projects, and nearly 20 other projects at provincial and ministerial levels. The team has obtained achievements such as the Innovation Team of Philosophy and Society in Colleges and Universities of Henan Province, the Excellent Postgraduate Supervisor Team of Henan Province, and the First Prize of Henan Province Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. The academic journal "New Media Public Communication" founded by the Institute has been selected as a collection of the Chinese Academic Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (AMI), and an international academic seminar on new media public communication is held every year. The Institute's achievements have been recognized and affirmed by the academic community.

In July 2013, the Public Communication Research Center for New Media of Zhengzhou University was established;
In 2014, "New Media Public Communication" was declared and established as the first key projects of the basic and emerging disciplines of Zhengzhou University;
In 2015, "New Media and Ideology Research" was selected as the superior characteristic discipline groups in Henan Province and established as provincial superior characteristic discipline direction;
In 2016, "Public Communication" was identified as an advantageous and characteristic discipline of Zhengzhou University;
In 2016, the second-level doctoral program of "Public Communication" was approved by the Ministry of Education, and started enrollment in 2017;
In 2017, "New Media Public Communication" was approved as an innovation team of philosophy and social science in Colleges and Universities of Henan Province;
In 2018, the College was awarded the first-level doctoral degree in journalism and communication, taking "new media public communication" as the first direction;
In 2019, the Institute set up a collection of "New Media Public Communication" and published regularly twice a year, with a total of six series until May 2023.
In 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022, six consecutive academic seminars on "New Media Public Communication" will be held.
In 2022, the supervisor team of "New Media Public Communication" was awarded as the excellent postgraduate supervisor team in Henan Province.
Introduction of the core team members of the New Media Research Institute of Zhengzhou University
Zhang Shuhua, Dean of New Media Research Institute, Professor, Vice Dean and Doctoral Supervisor of College of Journalism and Communication in Zhengzhou University. She is the chief expert of the major projects of the National Social Science Foundation, the deputy director of the Steering Committee of Professional Degree Postgraduate Education of Henan Province, a member of the Fourth Discipline Review Group, a special term professor of Henan Province, and the leader of the ninth batch of key disciplines. Her research interests are new media, public communication, rural communication and so on. She has presided over five national projects, including major projects of the National Social Science Foundation, and more than 20 other projects at provincial and departmental levels. She has published more than 10 academic works and edited the collection "New Media Public Communication"; she has published more than 50 papers in journals such as Journalism and Communication Research, including 17 papers in authoritative journals. Her scientific research achievements have been awarded four second prizes of the Henan Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and many other provincial and departmental awards. Her teaching achievements include winning the First Prize of Henan Province Teaching Achievement Award, one national first-class undergraduate course, presiding over two provincial teaching reform projects and one joint postgraduate training base. Deng Yuanbing, Deputy Dean of the New Media Research Institute, is an Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor at the College of Journalism and Communication in Zhengzhou University, Director of the College's Discipline Construction and Research Management Office, and Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Network and New Media. He graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a PhD. His research interests include urban image communication, new media user behaviour, and information communication effects. He has presided over more than 20 research projects, including two National Social Science Foundation projects and nine provincial research projects and talent projects. He has published 7 books and more than 30 academic papers (including two papers indexed by SSCI JCR 1, one paper indexed by SSCI JCR 2 and four major journals in the field of journalism and communication), and has received more than 20 awards in teaching and research. He has been selected for the "Double Thousand Plan" of the Ministry of Propaganda for the mutual employment of university and journalism practitioners, the training plan for young outstanding teachers in Henan Province, the plan for scientific and technological innovation talents in Henan Province (social science category), the training plan for young outstanding teachers in Zhengzhou University, and the support plan for the excellent young talent innovation team in Zhengzhou University. Zheng Dawei, is the deputy director of the New Media Research Institute, an associate professor at the College of Journalism and Communication and the head of the Department of Network and New Media at Zhengzhou University. He has a PhD in history, and his research interests are in the history of communication technology. He successively graduated from Zhengzhou University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and has been engaged in communication research since 2005. He has published more than 30 papers, 3 of which have been reprinted in full by “Journalism and Communication”, Reprinted by Journal of Renmin University of China, and 1 in full in “China Social Science Digest”. He has presided over nearly 10 provincial projects and participated in many national first-class undergraduate courses and first-class undergraduate courses in Henan Province. Wang Xi, is an associate professor and master's supervisor in the College of Journalism and Communication of Zhengzhou University, and the director of the undergraduate teaching office of the college. Doctor from University of Toulouse III in France, visiting scholar at University of Oslo in Norway. Her research interests are intelligent communication and critical algorithm research. She has published many papers in International Journalism and other journals, and has won the Grand Prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of Philosophy and Social Science of Henan University, the Outstanding Academic Award of the "QIHAO Award" of Young New Media Academic Research, and the Outstanding Academic Achievement of Young Journalism Scholars in China. Cui Ruyuan, is a lecturer and master's supervisor in the College of Journalism and Communication, Zhengzhou University, and the deputy director of the College's Discipline and Research Office. D. in communication from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research interests are international communication and new media. In terms of scientific research, she is in charge of provincial and ministerial level projects such as Henan Province Philosophy and Social Science Planning Project, Henan Province Key Scientific Research Project Program for Higher Education Institutions, Henan Province Postdoctoral Fund Project, etc. She has published many papers in core journals such as "Journalism and Communication Research", "China National Image Communication Report", "Young Journalist", etc. In terms of teaching, she mainly undertakes courses such as "Online News Writing", "New Media User Research", "History of Foreign News Communication", etc. She was awarded the project of first-class undergraduate course (hybrid) of Zhengzhou University in 2020, and preside over the completion of the research and practice project of educational teachin reform of Zhengzhou University in 2021. Yang Yong, is a lecturer in Journalism and Communication at Zhengzhou University. His main research interests include media management, intelligent communication, cultural media industry, digital media operation. He has worked as a reporter for Xinhua News Agency and published more than 20 influential works in the key columns of Xinhua News Agency, such as China Net Matters, Xinhua Survey, Survey Report from the Frontline, New Media Line and Social Survey. Zhang Yingpei, is a lecturer at the College of Journalism and Communication, Zhengzhou University, with a PhD in communication. He lectures on "Convergence Journalism", "Research Methods in Journalism and Communication", "Reading Professional Literature (English)" and other courses. His research areas cover media convergence, subculture studies, and new media audiences. He received the 71st grant of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and presided over one project of Henan Province Philosophy and Social Science Planning. He has published 11 academic papers on media convergence reform and construction of county-level integrated media centers in "China Editor", "TV Research", "Journalism and Writing", and "Wide Angle of Publishing", among which 5 are included in CSSCI and extended journals. Qin Yixuan, is a lecturer and postdoctoral fellow in Journalism and Communication at the College of Journalism and Communication in Zhengzhou University, and a PhD in Radio, Television and Digital Media at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She is in charge of one postdoctoral science fund project in China and one soft science research project in Henan Province.
