In order to gain a deeper understanding of postgraduates' thinking, study and life, listen to their opinions on education, teaching and daily management, and solve the problems and difficulties faced by them in a timely manner, the School of Journalism and Communication held a research seminar on postgraduate teaching and management this year in the afternoon of May 18. Wu Aimin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication, Li Guodong, Deputy Secretary, Zhang Shuhua, Vice Dean, Zhang Yingpei, Graduate Teaching Office, Li Hui and Liu Zichen, postgraduate counselors, and 13 student representatives from three current years attended the seminar.
The seminar was hosted by Vice President Zhang Shuhua. At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary Wu Aimin explained the significance of the symposium, expressed the high importance attached to the work of postgraduates and clarified the purpose of the symposium, hoping that all of them could express their opinions freely and put forward valuable opinions for the teaching and management of postgraduates in the College.
Thirteen representatives of postgraduates from different grades and majors put forward their opinions and suggestions on the postgraduate work of the College with regard to postgraduate academic communication, thesis publication, practical research and employment direction. The leaders and teachers listened carefully to the speeches of the postgraduate representatives and discussed them in depth, responding to the questions raised by the students one by one. Students and teachers had a lively discussion on the issues of conducting employment sharing sessions, expanding academic salon activities and increasing exchange activities between students and teachers. At the same time, Mr. Zhang Yingpei and Mr. Liu Zichen, from their own personal experiences, gave guidance to our postgraduate students on their personal career planning and future development direction, focusing on issues such as postgraduate life, career planning and communication between teachers and students. Mr. Li said that he would sort out the problems raised by the students and solve them in a timely manner, so as to provide a strong guarantee for the students' study and life.
After the speeches of the postgraduate students, Dean Zhang Shuhua had an in-depth discussion with the representatives of the graduating students on the problem of low employment rate of the graduating year, and suggested that the leaders and teachers of the Faculty should match up with them to broaden the employment channels of the students and increase the employment positions.
Secretary Li Guodong expressed his expectation for the postgraduate students of the School, hoping that they would actively participate in academic conferences while completing their professional courses; and read books as widely as possible to broaden their personal horizons; the junior students should set long-term goals and enrich their postgraduate study life with result-oriented.
Finally, Secretary Wu Aimin made a concluding speech, hoping that the College would conduct regular seminars for teachers and students in the future, so as to broaden the communication channels between teachers and students and encourage students to make more suggestions for the teaching and management of the College. The College will also listen to students' opinions extensively to protect their study life.
This seminar is a response to the central government's proposal of "promoting the wind of investigation and research" and linking "theme education" with daily work. This research has built a bridge between the College and students, helping the College to understand the actual life and study situation of students, and providing a list of questions and directions for improvement for the College's future postgraduate teaching and management. In the next step, the School of Journalism and Communication will also carry out faculty-student seminars on a regular basis to promote the high-quality development of postgraduate management in the School and enhance the capability and level of postgraduate teaching and management in the School.
