Liu Xian-ge was born in January 1977 in Donggang, Liaoning Province. He has a PhD degree in History from Peking University and a postdoctoral degree in Journalism and Communication from Tsinghua University. He was a visiting scholar for the "Multi-friends" program in the Department of Media and Communication at City University of Hong Kong and is currently a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication at Zhengzhou University. His research interests lie on the edge of political science, history and journalism and communication studies, with a focus on modern Chinese politics and the history of journalism and communication. He won the first prize for papers in the “China and the World in Historical Process: The First China History Postdoctoral Forum 2012” and served as a member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for drama and film majors in ordinary institutions of higher education in Liaoning Province from 2014 to 2017. He has participated in the National Social Science Foundation’s key project "The History of China's Journalism for Sixty Years," and has led two provincial social science planning fund projects. He acted as an academic consultant for the biographical documentary film "Master of the Press Zhang Jiluan," co-produced by Phoenix Satellite Television and the Yulin Chamber of Commerce, which received positive social feedback when it was first broadcast in March to April 2012.
